Gabrovica - 452-metre railway viaduct in Slovenia.

The Gabrovica viaduct is a key part of the second railway track project between Divača and Koper in Slovenia. Designed to improve the connectivity of the port of Koper to the European rail network, this 452-metre-long viaduct is part of a 27.1 km line that includes eight tunnels and two viaducts, overcoming geotechnical challenges in predominantly limestone and flysch terrain.

A direct consequence of this project will be a significant improvement in the communication and transport of goods between the industrial area and the port of Koper, Slovenia's only port, located in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea.

This port mainly connects the markets of Central and South-Eastern Europe with the Mediterranean Sea and the Far East, in fact, it is one of the main gateways for the European automotive industry to the Asian market. Today it is also the main port serving the route between the Adriatic Sea and Central Europe, playing a crucial role in the region's trade.

For its waterproofing and concrete protection, the Tecnocoat P-2049polyurea system , certified by EOTA for application on bridge decks , was selected . Our Slovenian partner ARHILAB is responsible for the development and installation of the waterproofing project for  the4145 m² of this viaduct. The application, which is currently in progress, is being carried out according to the process on the following pages.

The application process consists of the following main steps:

1. Surface Preparation

The concrete surfaces and metal bars are being sanded and sandblasted, removing contaminants and creating a rough surface to improve the adhesion of the system.

2. Application of primers

Primer EP-1010 is being applied as a thixotropic epoxy resin to regularise concrete surfaces, filling cracks and imperfections to improve planimetry and Primer EP-1040 on the metal bars, both dusted with silica sand to improve adherence. Subsequently, Primer PU-1050 is being applied to both surfaces, ensuring uniform coverage.

3. Polyurea System Application
